Set an alert for when Montauk tickets go on sale to see this searing world premiere starring four-time Emmy Award winner Laura Linney. Montauk plays at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre for a limited run starting spring 2027. A play about art, life, and the decisions we make to reconcile both, Montauk on Broadway promises a thrilling, sharp, and intimate production.
Don't miss Montauk in New York to catch Linney back on stage in a production directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan (Summer, 1976; Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes). Two-time Olivier Award winner David Hare (Plenty, Skylight) is known for his rich plays about deeply interconnected relationships, and his newest work offers a taut drama and a specific look at an artist and a writer who have opposing perspectives on their craft. Where is the boundary between art and life, and what happens when both involve personal ties?

Montauk, a world premiere play, is a visceral portrait of two creatives who have enormously different approaches to their art and life. One, Jared Speight, is an impudent artist who is also a big shot of Long Island abstraction; the other is star writer Roxy Margaux, who easily becomes infatuated with Jared's bravado. Opposites attract, but they also repel: over a decade of trysts and professional entanglements, their different reasons for making their art become painfully transparent, rocking the foundation of their relationship, craft, and lives.
Profound, smart, and intimate, David Hare's newest play asks big questions about our passions and the sacrifices we make to nurture them. Manhattan Theatre Club is celebrated for plays like these, including Doubt and Proof, that are curious, rigorous, and ultimately theatrical and moving. This play in their 2026/27 season shows their commitment to premiering new works and giving a platform to starry actors to carry such shows.
Montauk is at New York's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, which is located at 261 West 47th Street, New York, 10036.
